Alumni Contribution to interagency e-publication

The United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship Alumni has contributed to the first ocean-related interagency e-publication coordinated by UNDESA, which include international agencies such as CBD Secretariat, FAO, IAEA, IMO, UNDP, UNESCO-IOC, and DOALOS…

The e-publication theme is on “Local and regional experiences: How oceans-related measures contribute to the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development“. This publication contains measures undertaken at the local/regional level with regard to the main challenges that local and regional communities face. It also focuses on the impacts of these measures on the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.

The Alumni Network has submitted 4 articles, which have all been accepted by UNDESA. Our Congratulations to our alumni namely Joytishna Jit, Gloria Yona, Liliana Rodriguez Cortes and Senia Febrica for their excellent case studies.

Our gratitude goes to the Division of Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea and to the United Nations Nippon Foundation Team, Dr. Bailet, Mrs. Germani and Mrs. Dempsey for their support.

The e-publication is under publication and will be soon available.

It is wonderful to be able to contribute from the region. There is a need for greater capacity to contextualise issues and seek solutions through publications aimed at bridging understanding of ocean and coastal challenges. Thanks to DOALOS and Nippon Foundation for giving us one of the rarest opportunities around. I encourage more Pacific Islanders to apply for UN fellowships.
