Gulf of Guinea Inter-Regional Coordination Centre

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ollowing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC) on Maritime Safety and Security in Central and West Africa adopted in June 2013 the three organizations have signed on 5 of June 2014 in Yaoundé a protocol to establish an Inter-Regional Coordination Centre (ICC) for the implementation of a Regional Strategy for Maritime Safety and Security in Central and West Africa.

The meetings that took place from 3 to 5 June 2014 gathered the heads of the three organizations and validated two documents submitted by the Inter-regional Working Group in charge of drafting the basic instruments of the ICC. In addition to the aforementioned Additional Protocol for the ICC the Experts of the Member States of the two regions and the Executives of the three regional organizations also validated the Rules of Procedure for the Annual General Meeting of the Chief Executives.

Support One of Our Own: Project on Active Noise Control for the Marine Environment competes for an Important Award

Julien Gross and our alumnus Thérard-Doriant Miénahou (UN-Nippon Foundation alumnus, 2010 promotion) have completed a research project on active noise control for the marine environment at ENSTA Paris Tech. The research was undertaken in the context of Miénahou’s advanced Master in marine engineering at ENSTA Paris Tech. After several months of intense work and advanced research, they suggested a reliable, scientifically-based and immediately operational system for the design of noiseless marine wind turbine. The results of the research are remarkable: the project has been selected to the DCNS’s Trophée Poseidon competition, which will be held in Lorient (France) between February 6th and 9th.

Kudos Miénahou! The alumni and the program are very proud! The relevance of the research makes it already a winner. But if awarded, the price would allow developing a system prototype, which would be a big step to improve turbines design and avoid noise pollution in the marine waters.

And there is something we all can do to support the research of one of our own. One of the most important criteria of the award is the promotion done for the project. Julien Gross and Miénahou have created a Facebook page, and are inviting all of us (alumni, sea lovers, new technologies enthusiasts, everyone!) to like the project and improve their chances to win the award. So sign in and press I LIKE THIS!!!!!
