On Tuesday, April 29, 2014, the Fellows attended a presentation by Mr. François BAILET. The purpose of this presentation was to inform the fellows about the mandatory thesis outline structure, namely the adoption of a two-part outline for their research topic. This exercise was conducted with the interactive participation of fellows based on an example topic, where Mr. BAILET highlighted the contours of the two-part outline and with strategies and tools that could be used by the fellows in their writing process.
On Thursday, May 1, 2014 was the weekly Fellows meeting from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. On this occasion, the Fellows received the visit of Mr. Reza DEHGHANI a former Fellow of the 2008-2009 UN – Nippon Foundation Fellowship session. Mr. DEHGHANI mainly shared information on his professional experiences with the Fellows and in this context he also shared his experience during the fellowship period and the beneficial contribution of the program to his professional career. At the end, he strongly encouraged the fellows to focus on their research topic as well as the other learning activities provided by the fellowship. The meeting session between Mr. DEHGHANI and the fellows was very dynamic, with many questions and answers.
On the same day, Ms. Valentina GERMANI, Program Advisor, had a meeting with the Fellows where she provided some practical information on the second phase of the programme, such as the need for the fellows to start initial communication with their supervisors at the host university; the visa requirement for the second phase placement and to this end she encouraged those who have not yet have obtained their visas not to lose courage; we also talked about the thesis outline discussion that will take place next week in her office with each fellow on their research topic.
On Friday, May 2, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in Laboratory 2, Ms. Valentina GERMANI, gave the Fellows a brief presentation on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Besides the above activities, the time was used by the fellows to refine their research and work on their thesis outlines.
